Abstract

The author investigated the effect of Mg++, Na¢¥, K+ and creatine phosphate on the ATPase activity of mitochondrial fraction isolated from testis of normal and vasectomized rabbits and obtained the following results. 1. The mitochondrial fraction of testis obtained the Na+-K+activated ATPase in the Presence of Mg+-¢¥.
The ATPase activity was increased with protein content in the fraction.
2. The maximum ATPase activity was obtained at 100 mM. Na-1- and 100 mM. K+ under the presence of 6 mM. Mg++.
3. In the absence of Mg++, the ATPase was riot activated by Na+ and K+.
4. The K+-activated ATPase activity was higher than that of the Na+-activated ATPase.
5. The Na+- K+-activated ATPase activity was increased by the addition of creatine phosphate and creatine phosphokinase.
6. No significant change was observed in the mitochondria) fraction adenosine triphosphatase in the vasectomized rabbit testis.
